Front Cover
My granddaughter Madeleine is 7 and is showing tremendous art talent. I have a separate gallery on this site just for her:
Madeleine created some fabulous artwork last year in first grade to the amazement of all of us! And, she continues to delight us this year as well. She loves art. To commemorate her accomplishments and let her know how proud I am of her, I decided to make a cloth book of her artwork for her 7th birthday.
The artwork was copied and transferred onto white fabric, stitched with accent fabrics and embellishments. Words and statements are hand written by her and transferred as well. I sent her a list of questions and topics to capture comments in her own words. All she was told was Grammie was making something very special for her.
The front cover has her initials MMM across the top and the word ARTIST at the bottom. A yellow ribbon ties all of the pages together.

Table of Contents and Madeleine Herself
Inside the front cover shows the table of contents. The words have been stamped on. The photo of Madeleine shows her beautiful full smile and her name inserted on the right. Crayon buttons are placed around her picture.

Page 1 and 2
Page 1 Self Portrait in pencil. Her expression reveals how hard she was concentrating on her face; otherwise she is usually smiling. The likeness is amazingly accurate.
Page 2 Laurel Birch study. Caption: “I like cats because they are furry.”

Page 3 and 4
Page 3 A charcoal drawing of a Dolphin. The shading shows her keen sense of values.
Page 4 A watercolor painting of a Tulip. The flower is defined with ink. A few small seashells are attached to the page.

Page 5 and 6
Page 5 has a rainbow stitched with fabric strips. Caption: “I love rainbows because they have lots of colors.”
Page 6 A pastel drawing of an elephant. The textures of skin look realistic as well as the contour lines that define the curve and tubular shape of the trunk. Caption: “I love elephants because they are blue”.

Page 7 and 8
Page 7 This picture was taken two summers ago. Madeleine is with her Grandfather “Poppy” out for a boat ride. Caption: “Poppy is funny.” A red heart signifies the love she shares with us.
Page 8 This is a picture of me that was taken at the Houston Quilt Show three years ago posing in front of my work. Caption: “Grammie is a good artist.” The year 2009 is stamped on the bottom.
The back cover is made of assorted cheerful fabrics and is stamped with GOOBER PUBLICATION 2009. Madeleine is a very funny little girl and has been since I can remember. I nicknamed her GOOBER because she is a “nut”. A very lovable nut and holds a special spot in my heart.

Madeleine is indeed a happy artist. I can see her progress from her last art. She is a little star. Congratulations and Happy Birthday, Madeleine. Debbie, you are a blessed Grammie!
What a wonderful way to remember all those beautiful works of art. You are incredibly talented (both of you). I love the cat portrait. This will be a treasured memento that Madeleine may one day share with her grandchildren and maybe make a book for them.
What a wonderful gift to be able to share such talent. Maddie has a wonderful role model.
Oh! I want one, too! Madeline will just love Grammie’s birthday gift and will treasure it her whole life. Her eye for shading is fantastic. How lucky you are to have a granddaughter who takes after her Grammie. How lucky Madeline is to have a Grammie like you.
What a great idea, and way to remember. I love children’s art. Your book is lovely.
What a clever grand daughter and Grammie you are a really good artist team. Thank you for being an inspiration to us all.
